~~ Wichenford Court / Manor House ~~
The le POOR's or le POHER's held Wichenford Court in the feudal system of the greater manor of Wick Episcopi, Worcester, whose Lord was the Bishop of Worcester.  Samson who was the Bishop from 1096 to 1112, granted land at Wichenford to Illi de Turro.  This land, was believed, held by Hamo de Turro.  In the latter part of the 1100's it was held by William le POOR.  In the late 1190's, Richard le POOR's land included this in Wichenford.  He was living as late as 1220.  This Richard had a son John le POOR.  In 1299, a James ( perhaps this should be John ), was Lord of the manor.  Roger le POOR, son of John le POOR, died in the 1340's.  Roger le POOR, Lord of the manor of Wichenford, married Maud, daughter of Nicholas THYNNE.  After the death of her husband, Roger, she held the Wichenford Manor.  Maud died in 1362, and her son John le POOR, became the manor's Lord.  John had a son Walter le POOR, who died without any children.  John also had two daughters Margaret and Agnes le POOR.  Margaret married John WASHBOURNE.  Agnes married James de HABINGDON, who was a famous antiquary and historian.  The Wichenford Manor was held by Margaret le POOR, hence to the WASHBOURNE family.  The manor's Lords bore the surname of the Washbourne family until 1695, when William WASHBOURNE, then holding Wichenford, leased the manor to George DOWDSWELL.  In 1712, William Washbourne sold Wichenford to Edmund SKINNER, where Edward, in about a decade, became Sheriff of Worcestershire.  In the early 1900's, the manor belonged to a BRITTEN family.
During the reign of Henry IV, one of the Bourbon Prince's was confined at the Wichenford Court Manor and is said that Joan Mitton while her husband was away, killed the Bourbon Prince.  After Joan's death, it said that her ghost with a dagger in her hands was seen in the murdered Prince's chamber at midnight on Saint Mary Magdalene's Eve.  Another folklore is that every year, when the Lammas Moon was at its full, Joan was seen riding in a silver boat drawn  with four white swans nine times around the moat at the Washbourne Estate, carrying a golden harp and singing.
